Harry Shaw is a filmmaker based in East London, UK.


He started his working life in the world of photography, reportage and non-fiction filmmaking. His photographic work was featured in magazines such as Vice, Noisey, SQ, Notion and many more. From reportage still imagery, Shaw moved into the world of documentary. His first short documentary film for Channel 4 secured him a southern Royal Television Society Best Newcomer award. 

His documentary ‘Don’t Think Twice’, with music by Bob Dylan, qualified for the BIFAs in 2022. His first narrative short ‘Can You Feel It’ was nominated for Best Director at the BFI Future Film Festival and programmed in BFI Flare the same year. 

His latest short film as writer/director, 'Sugar Babies' is a hypnotic queer drama which has been nominated for Cannes Independent Short Awards, Best Drama at the British Short Film Awards and two Shark Awards, Best Director and Best Film. 

Shaw has produced two BFI-funded short films. The first ‘Rice Ball’ (dir. Kristina Pringle) was funded by the BFI x BMW partnership fund and the team was mentored by Michaela Coel. It premiered as a special presentation at the 2023 BFI London Film Festival. 

The second ‘Meat Raffle’ (dir. Stuart Armstrong) has been selected to compete in the largest short film prize in the world, The Iris Prize, and as a result has secured a broadcast on Film4 and a license for Channel 4 online for a year. The film qualified for the 2026 BAFTA Awards and will have it’s UK premiere at Bolton Film Festival this year.

His debut feature, We Need To Kill Your Father, was optioned and is now in development with Article1. 

His lockdown-short 'When This Is All Over' was curated and archived by the team at the BFI National Archive as a part of their Covid-19 Pandemic Curated Archive.

Harry has worked as a Showrunner’s, Writers’ and Director’s assistant on multiple HETV projects including Netflix’s ‘The Diplomat’ and AppleTV+’s ‘Silo’.

Harry works with numerous high profile writers, producers and actors as a script editor and consultant. A list of clients is available on request.
